Colin Fite completed dual Bachelor of Science degrees in Chemistry (with a minor in Mathematics) and Biochemistry (with a concentration in Biology) during his undergraduate studies at East Carolina University. During his time at ECU, he gathered technical skills in molecular techniques and immunohistochemistry through undergraduate research with maize. Additionally, he gained experience in a variety of chromatography and spectrometry instruments during chemistry laboratory courses. One of his research objectives will encompass applications of beneficial microbes for facilitated growth and improvement of hydroponically grown basil. Another of his research objectives will include applications of beneficial microbes and carbon dioxide for plant performance and quality improvements in hemp. He will also be working with an I2Grow mini-grant team to address global challenges involving greenhouse gas emissions and food security. His future career goals include owning an analytical testing site for plants and working with local farmers to improve crop production.
