K12 CEA Education – Projects and Resources

Funded by
The Food and Agriculture Non-formal Education (FANE) program (USDA-NIFA)

CEA Innovation Center team members, Drs South, Lowman and Evans, are working with this multistate team to develop and deploy educational programs to prepare middle and high school students for careers in controlled environment agriculture.

The VA team at the CEA Innovation Center will develop content and programs for middle and high school students and teachers as part of this 4-year project with GLASE. The VA team is specifically focused on robotics and imaging, hydroponics, and horticultural practices. Project progress will be posted here.

As part of Objective 1, team members from New York, Pennsylvania, Wyoming, and us here in Virginia prepared a report on Gaps in CEA Education.

This report highlights key gaps in controlled environment agriculture (CEA) education and workforce preparation across the U.S. It offers evidence-based insights to inform curriculum development, training programs, and strategic investments in CEA education.
