Controlled Environment Agriculture Innovation Center

A joint project with Virginia Tech’s School of Plant and Environmental Sciences, the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research (IALR), and the Virginia Seafood Agricultural Research and Extension Center working to advance the CEA industry.

Welcome to the CEA Innovation Center

The CEA Innovation Center is a partnership between Virginia Tech and the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research dedicated to advancing controlled environment agriculture through research, innovation, workforce development, and industry collaboration.

What is Controlled Environment Agriculture?

Controlled Environment Agriculture (CEA) is the practice of growing crops in environments where key factors such as light, temperature, humidity, water, and nutrients are carefully controlled. These systems include greenhouses, indoor vertical farms, hydroponics, aquaponics, and other specialized facilities designed to optimize plant growth and resource efficiency.
